The Buyersphere & Your Social Media Strategy

Tackling the field of social media can be daunting. Many clients have been asking us: “Do I need to be on Facebook? Do I need to be on Twitter?”. This isn’t the first question your business needs to ask – it’s actually the last one.  You need to know who you want to reach before you can know where to reach them. There’s a number of different methods you can use when developing your social media strategy. One that we’re fond of at Enquiro is Forrester Research’s POST method. POST stands for People, Objectives, Strategy, and Technology. One of the [...]

Geosocial Networking: The Newest Dimension of Social Media

Social location sharing is about to hit the mainstream. Services such as Foursquare and Gowalla have been in increasing use by social media hardcores for the last year or so, but haven’t really taken off to a large degree. Foursquare itself only recently hit the one million user mark. But with Facebook announcing that it will be launching new location-based features (known as “Foursquare Killers”) imminently, social location sharing is going to be put front and centre in front  of a much broader audience. Social location sharing is not the only location-based tool gaining attention. MyTown and other location-based, augmented [...]

Crowdsourcing the Creation of Content

CBC Radio 3 hosted a session at Northern Voice called “Wikifying the CBC: Social Software at CBC Radio 3”. The session took a look at the new Canadian Music Wiki which is expected to launch this Friday. The wiki allows the Canadian public to contribute to an online music database of information about Canadian music. The project is best defined as a user-generated, participatory online resource on Canadian music. People tend to be very enthusiastic about the subject of music. CBC Radio 3 is fortunate as they have a substantial base of online users currently using their web properties. The [...]

Upcoming Social Media Conference

Northern Voice 2010 is getting underway in Vancouver, BC this weekend. It’s a conference put on by the local tech community focusing on social media and blogging. There’s a wide range of topics, from Wikifying the CBC: Social software at CBC Radio 3 (crowdsourcing the creation of content) to Finding Your Online Voice (defining you and your brand online). Tickets are sold out if you are interested in attending, though I did see a few floating around on Twitter in the last few days. If you are interested in getting an idea of what the conference is about, a number [...]

Understanding the BuyerSphere Project – Part 4

B2B purchase processes all have a common currency, and that currency is risk. There are two kinds of risk; corporate risk and individual risk. For the corporation, will this purchase be the wrong decision for the company and jeopardize our business plans? For the individual, if I sign this purchase order, will it enhance my career or put me on a fast track to a pink slip? In a B2B environment, two things make a purchase risky. The first is related to the product or service being purchased. In my previous post, I took a closer look at this element [...]

Understanding the BuyerSphere Project – Part 3

In my last post about The BuyerSphere Project by Gord Hotchkiss, I talked about mapping your product or service against a Risk Matrix in order to see your business from the customer’s perspective. There are two areas you need to consider to do this; first, where does your product/service fall on the scale from low to high consideration, and second, what is your company’s position in the market? Today I’m going to take a look at the product/service side of the equation, and focus on some key points that impact a B2B purchase decision. 1. Price. There isn’t a great [...]

Understanding the BuyerSphere Project, Part2.

Risk; when potential customers look at buying from your company, at some level they are assessing risk. Buyers want to reduce the risk in making a purchase, and of course purchases have varying degrees of risk. In my previous post about The BuyerSphere Project, I mentioned three overlapping dimensions to consider – the product, the market and the buyer. Let’s focus on two of these , the product and the market. If your company buys the same photocopy paper from the same supplier month after month without a problem, that is an example of a low risk purchase. You know [...]

Buy & Sell Slaves on eBay…or dynamic keyword insertion gone wild

eBay and Google have been getting some attention lately after someone in the UK noticed that a search on Google for “African slaves” served up a search results page that included an ad from eBay for “African slaves”. Is this a case of eBay and Google being evil? No, it’s a case of sloppy dynamic keyword insertion (DKI). And eBay doesn’t restrict its poor ad management to just Google. Take, for example, this screenshot from a search originating in Canada for “slaves” on Bing, taken this morning. Apparently eBay has “Fantastic prices on Slaves. Buy & Sell today”. OK, even [...]
