This is a great, in-depth piece on a very important issue - keyword research. Especially the point you make that keyword research is an ongoing process.

I also love Issue #4 as this happens all the time. In fact, it was said recently to me by someone who is in the Internet Marketing industry when I was asked to optimize a site. "We already know this is is an underserved niche, that's why we've reserved all these great domain names, so we can't see spending additional money on keyword research". Unfortunately, the keywords they thought were ideal had no volume at all, when just a few subtle variations could have made all the difference in the world.

Thanks Alan. We appreciate the support. We agree keyword selection should be at the top of any marketing strategy and that keyword research is something that is to be on-going based on one's target audience and the nature of their market.

Thanks for taking the time to check us out.

Jody – excellent article/advice – pulls together all the relevant points. A criticism would be that you have undersold the piece – most of the issues you raise are relevant for all keyword selection, not just B2B & niche markets.

I think keyword selection is up at the top of any online marketing strategy and spend a lot of time on it in my classes – you’re definitely getting a link to this page from my website.
