I was thinking of paying for inclusion in the directory. But the page is only PR3, is it still worth it?

InterestingI’ve never thought the apparently simple ways Google thinks. The matter is that Search Engines “indexes” your page abundant times, it still takes a metric tonne of effort on your part in order to get a website to become “relevent” to the spiders. This will add to my knowledge of SEO.

We’ve debated submitting our company website (http://www.deversus.com) to the Yahoo Directory for some time. In order for us to rank well for the highly competitive search terms we target (i.e. custom software development, web application development), we need to boost our page rank. Google’s algorithm is so heavily weighted on quality, relevant inbound links that we decided the PR 8 link alone is worth the $299/year (We’re listed at http://dir.yahoo.com/Business_and_Economy/Business_to_Business/Computers/Software/Consulting/Custom_Programming/). Our page rank is currently 4, so it will be interesting to see if there is any improvement as a result of being listed in the Yahoo Directory. I’ll post a follow-up in a few months to let you know what sort of effects the listing has.

There is no doubt that a listing in Yahoo’ directory is an important link from an high authority site and can only help your rankings if you can afford the $299 fee. We where listed at http://www.medassistant.org and there was a large increase in our Yahoo search for medical assistant and related terms.
